Niche in Muhammad Ali Mosque

In this photo, we can see the Niche, or what is called the Mihrab, in the wall of the Mosque. The location of the Niche indicates the direction of the Kaaba in Mecca and hence the direction that Muslims should face when praying.

Just to the right of the Niche at this Mosque is the Minbar which is a pulpit in the mosque where the imam (prayer leader) stands to deliver sermons.

This photo also show some of the lights that exist within the Mosque. The floor of the Mosque has a patterned Red Carpet that when we were there was rather worn and thin.
