It is currently Africa’s oldest continuous democracy. Botswana is topographically flat. Up to 70 percent of its territory being the Kalahari Desert. It is bordered by South Africa to the south and southeast, Namibia to the west and north, and Zimbabwe to the northeast.
Our visit to Botswana was in May 2007. We stayed at the Muchenje Safari Lodge for 2 nights but 3 very busy days. This is on the western side of the Chobe National Park and adjoined the Namibia border. Hence, the amount of Botswana we were able to experience was very limited. Confined to the border with Zimbabwe to Western part of the Chobe National Park near the road crossing into Namibia.
We were fortunate to have a number of Safari’s covering the park. It included and an afternoon safari, evening safari, morning safari, and an all day safari. With these safaris, it allowed us to explore the area from the Namibia border crossing through to Kasane – north of the main road.
