Wandering down Commercial Road, we paused before the grand old Victoria Hotel and theatre, built in 1861. Whispers among locals swirled about Dame Nellie Melba’s performance here—and we couldn’t help but imagine roaring crowds and lights from a century past. The public hall still hosts town events, making it a living relic.
Poverty Mine Monument & Memorial Park
Out on leafy walks, we came to the Poverty Mine Monument—honouring the discovery that put Tarnagulla on the map. Nearby, Soldiers Memorial Park offered a serene moment to sit, while the quirky Kangaroo Chair sculpture brought a smile to our faces.
Wesleyan Methodist Church Remains
Just off the main street, the evocative ruins of the Wesleyan Methodist Church stood as a window into Tarnagulla’s spiritual past. Poppies and wildflowers poked through broken stone, creating a scene both haunting and beautiful.
