We settled into camp at Big Bend with our van only steps from the water’s edge, making it the perfect spot for Big Bend Murray River camping. The peaceful riverside setting, clear skies, and birdlife set the scene for fishing, resting, and watching the river roll by—pure bliss for us.
Stayed at this site for 5 nights – nice and relaxing.
Facilities & Essentials
Big Bend camping is free, suitable for self-contained vans, and offers plenty of flat space. No mains water, so we checked our van supplies before settling in. We had easy access to the river for fishing, kayaking, and wildlife spotting. There are no toilets or power, but the serenity makes up for it.

Local Towns & Patchwork Shops
Heather will love exploring nearby towns for patchwork treasures. Swan Reach and Mannum are within reasonable driving distance and known for boutique shops, arts, and local crafts. Nays Place in Waikerie is a little farther, but worth checking if driving upriver.
Staying Connected
Starlink proved absolutely essential here—typical telephone reception is nonexistent at Big Bend and most remote Murray River spots. Our dish kept us connected for streaming, work, and calls.
