As we rolled into the Tamar Valley, the shimmering waters of the Tamar River wound alongside lush vineyards and tranquil wetlands, painting the perfect backdrop to our Tasmanian adventure. With “Tamar River Tasmania” as our focus, we couldn’t resist starting our exploration in Launceston, where the estuary stretches all the way to Bass Strait, promising scenic beauty and countless ways to connect with local culture, food, and wildlife.

Cruising Cataract Gorge & Scenic Chairlift Rides

We kicked off our journey with a river cruise up Cataract Gorge—marveling at dramatic cliffs and native bushland before hopping on the scenic chairlift. Gliding above the swirling waters, we soaked in breathtaking river views and crossed the iconic suspension bridge, feeling the excitement of adventure beneath us.

Touring Tamar Valley Wineries

Meandering along the Tamar Valley Wine Trail, we visited cozy cellar doors nestled in rolling hills. Sipping award-winning sparkling at Jansz, sampling fine Pinot Noir among the vines at Holm Oak, and relaxing in eco-domes at Swinging Gate Vineyard, we discovered why Tamar is Australia’s cool climate capital for wine. The hospitality at each stop made every tasting memorable.
