Tag: Karoonda SA
Karoonda, located about 119 km east of Adelaide and 60 km northeast of Murray Bridge, stands in the heart of South Australia’s Murray Mallee region. The town carries a name drawn from an Aboriginal word meaning “winter camp.” Early settlers founded Karoonda in 1913 to open up the area for wheat farming and, soon after, Merino sheep grazing, which continues to define the community’s agricultural identity.
