Rupanyup is a rural town in Victoria, located on Dunmunkle Creek and the Wimmera Highway, about 40 km northeast of Horsham. We learned its name means “branch hanging over water,” derived from an Aboriginal language. Rupanyup was first surveyed in 1873 and became an agricultural hub, especially famous for chickpea and lentil production. The town features historic landmarks such as its railway station from 1890, the old CBA Bank, the Commercial Hotel, and Woods Farming & Heritage Museum, which showcase its rich rural past. Today, visitors enjoy Rupanyup’s place on the Silo Art Trail, vibrant community events, and welcoming small-town hospitality.
