The Darling River is one of Australia’s longest rivers, flowing for about 1,472 kilometers through New South Wales before joining the Murray River at Wentworth. Its entire river system, including tributaries, extends to 2,844 kilometers, making it Australia’s longest waterway. Starting near Brewarrina, the river winds past outback towns like Bourke, Wilcannia, Menindee, Pooncarie, and Wentworth, supporting a network of wetlands, native bush, and Aboriginal heritage. The Darling River’s catchment spans an enormous area of southeastern Australia and acts as the backbone of the Murray–Darling Basin, providing vital water for agriculture, wildlife, and communities.
