Karoonda Patchwork and Quilting

Karoonda bursts with patchwork and quilting inspiration, especially at Mallee Quilts. This is a must-visit spot for quilting fans in South Australia’s Murray Mallee region. As we wandered down Karoonda’s main street, the vibrant patterns and rows of fabrics inside Mallee Quilts instantly drew us in. It made us feel like we’d stumbled into a quilter’s paradise.

Discovering Mallee Quilts in Karoonda

Stepping into Mallee Quilts at 25 Railway Terrace, the variety amazed us. There were more than 2,000 bolts of fabric including flannel, velveteen, and chenille. Specialty lines include children’s prints, 1930s and 1800s reproductions, orientals, and country designs. The air buzzed with creative energy as passionate quilters browsed bolt after bolt, imagining their next masterpiece. Our senses feasted on the sight of vibrant yards of Moda Jelly Rolls, fat quarters, and charm squares.

  • Friendly staff helped us choose thread, batting (from wool to bamboo), needles, and specialty quilting notions.
  • Quilting and stitchery patterns inspired us to try something new.
  • We found adorable novelty buttons and even sewing machine clocks for our crafting corner.
