Lake Bonney Hotel Ruins on the Edge of Lake Bonney

Discovering the Ruins of Lake Bonney Hotel

A Morning Drive Around Lake Bonney

This morning, we took a scenic drive around Lake Bonney and stumbled upon a fascinating piece of history—the Ruins of Lake Bonney Hotel, located on the northern edge of the lake. The sight of these ruins was both intriguing and evocative, offering a glimpse into the past of this beautiful region.

The Old Hotel and Residence

The Lake Bonney Hotel, originally built in 1859 by William Parnell, was a significant landmark during its time1. It served travelers and drovers passing through the area, providing much-needed rest and refreshment. The hotel had eleven rooms, some with magnificently built chimneys, and a store hut nearer the lake1.

Attached to the hotel was a residence, which still stands today, albeit in ruins. This residence was home to William Napper, who purchased the hotel and surrounding land in 18631. Napper continued to operate the hotel until the 1880s, when he returned to the site to run it as an accommodation place once more1.

A Glimpse into History

Walking among the ruins, we could almost hear the echoes of the past—the bustling activity of travelers, the clinking of glasses, and the warmth of the hearths that once burned in the hotel’s rooms. The residence, with its weathered stone walls and remnants of chimneys, stood as a testament to the lives that once thrived here.

Capturing the Moment

We took a moment to capture the scene with a photo of the residence that adjoined the old hotel. The ruins, framed by the serene backdrop of Lake Bonney, made for a striking image that encapsulated the blend of history and natural beauty that defines this area.

Our discovery of the Ruins of Lake Bonney Hotel added a rich layer to our journey around the lake.
