Our adventure through the heart of the Flinders Ranges began at Three Creeks Station. This is a sprawling 20,000-acre property nestled midway between the Southern and Northern Flinders. The Road Less Traveled
The drive from Three Creeks towards Arcoota was a breathtaking experience of raw, untouched wilderness. Wild goats roamed freely across the rugged terrain. Their sure-footed movements were a testament to the harsh beauty of the outback. Travelling from Three Creeks to Arcoota, the landscape shifted dramatically. Large hills running into each other created a mesmerizing topography that challenged and delighted our sense of adventure.
A Majestic Encounter
The highlight of our journey was an incredible encounter with a red kangaroo – the largest of all kangaroo species. Standing tall against the tree lined river bed, the magnificent creature embodied the spirit of the Australian wilderness. Its powerful stance and vibrant coloration were a stark contrast to the rugged surroundings. This encounter added a majestic aspect to our trip from Three Creeks to Arcoota.
Scenic Route to Holowiliena
Our route from Three Creeks to Arcoota took us near Holowiliena Station. This historic sheep station has roots dating back to 1853. The scenery was spectacular. Rolling hills, expansive plains, and the distinctive geology of the Flinders Ranges created a panorama that seemed to stretch endlessly.
Pro Tip: When exploring this region, ensure your vehicle is equipped for unsealed roads. Bring plenty of water and supplies as well. The remoteness is part of the charm, but it also requires careful preparation.
