Discovering Orroroo’s Main Street

We wandered along Orroroo’s main street, which still has 1870s shopfronts. Each step let us glimpse the town’s pioneer story and soft rural charm.

Trails, Giant Gum, and Rail Bridge

Strolling beside Pekina Creek, we found the legendary Giant Gum Tree and a historic rail bridge. We also spotted Aboriginal carvings near the water, linking today’s vibes with ancient tradition.

We tasted kangaroo at Orroroo Kangaroo, an award-winning shop selling local meat and smallgoods—a must for foodies chasing authentic South Aussie flavour.

Orroroo Markets

On the fourth Sunday in March, May, July, September, and November, the Orroroo Market comes alive. We browsed themed stalls, found local art, and chatted with friendly producers.

We took advantage of an evening meal – and I must say that it is one of the biggest meals that I have ever had served up to me – just simply couldn’t eat it all.

We hired bikes from the caravan park and set out on nature trails, relishing views of yellow farmland and distant hills. Adventurers can also venture to ghost towns or take on challenging cycling and 4WD tracks in the nearby Bendleby Ranges.
