The outdoor museum, located on the side of National Highway One, showcases a unique collection of about 20 donated and restored windmills from places as far as Marla, the Riverland, and Alice Springs. Each windmill has its own story and history, making the museum a fascinating place to explore. The display is constantly expanding, thanks to the efforts of community volunteers like long-time residents Bob Oats and Tim Hardy.

The small farming community of Penong, with a regular population of around 75, is located on the main road from Adelaide to Perth. Despite its size, the town offers essential amenities such as a roadhouse, sporting ground, caravan park, pub, and general store. Penong’s residents take great pride in their town and have worked hard to create an attraction that draws visitors from near and far.
