Lake Bonney – Barmera – Sunset and Great Campsite

A Freshwater Gem

Lake Bonney, also known as Lake Bonney Riverland, is a beautiful freshwater lake located in the Riverland region of South Australia. The lake is fed and drained by the River Murray, making it a vital part of the local ecosystem. The town of Barmera sits on its shores, offering a picturesque setting for visitors to Lake Bonney – Barmera.

Enjoying the Tranquility

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Lake Bonney, located on the northern edge of Barmera. Lake Bonney – Barmera provided the perfect setting for a relaxing getaway.

A Temporary Campsite

Due to the floods that occurred on the Murray River in 2022, the campsite is currently in a temporary location. Despite this, the site is brilliant and offers excellent value at just $5 per night during our visit. The temporary setup did not detract from the experience; in fact, it added a unique charm to our stay. Reading about this site recently, this camp area is now closed.

Weathering the Wind

Our first day at Lake Bonney – Barmera was extremely windy, which made setting up camp a bit of a challenge. However, the effort was well worth it. As the day drew to a close, we were treated to a stunning sunset that painted the sky with vibrant hues, creating a breathtaking view over the lake.

A Memorable Experience

Our time at Lake Bonney was a memorable experience, filled with natural beauty and peaceful moments. The combination of the serene lake, the affordable and well-maintained campsite, and the spectacular sunset made our stay truly special.

If you’re looking for a tranquil escape with beautiful scenery and a touch of adventure, Lake Bonney – Barmera is a fantastic destination. Despite the temporary campsite, the experience is one that we will cherish for a long time.
