Lameroo Silo Art

After a peaceful day yesterday, we journeyed from the enchanting Pink Lakes to Pinnaroo, ready for new adventure. The drive in this region is short and scenic, mostly following the Mallee Highway through rural Victoria and South Australia. One of the highlights includes stopping to admire the vibrant Lameroo Silo Art.

Border Crossing & Fruit Rules

Stocking up on fruit and veg in Pinnaroo became necessary since border rules prohibit bringing fresh produce across into South Australia. Local shops and produce markets offered plenty of fresh options for travelers making this journey.

Heading for River Murray via Lameroo

Leaving this morning, we pointed west towards the River Murray, with a quick detour through Lameroo—a charming town and farming hub. Lameroo is well-known for its creative Silo Art displayed on two separate silos. The bold, colorful murals add character to the town and make for excellent photography stops, with the Lameroo Silo Art being quite the spectacle.

Western Silo Mural

The 2025 mural on the neighboring silo depicts a young woman holding her baby, watching grain harvest at sunset. This piece symbolizes Lameroo’s future and celebrates the evolving role of women in local agriculture. Together, the pair create a breathtaking diptych, illustrating themes of past and future, tradition and innovation, and the sacrifices and determination of rural life.

Eastern Silo Mural

The first mural, finished in April 2024, features a hyperreal farmer surveying the cold Mallee sunrise, with a classic windmill in the background—referencing Lameroo’s history as “the land of the windmill.” It honors the resilience and perseverance of the pioneering farmers who shaped the region.
